Hypertension
Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a condition in which the force of blood against the walls of the arteries remains consistently elevated. Over time, uncontrolled high blood pressure can damage blood vessels and increase the risk of serious health complications, including heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and other organ damage.
SYMPTOMS
of Hypertension
High blood pressure is often called the “silent killer” because many people do not experience symptoms, even when blood pressure levels are dangerously high.
In some cases, severely elevated blood pressure may cause:
Headaches
Blurred vision
Chest pain
Shortness of breath
Dizziness

RISK FACTORS
of Hypertension
High blood pressure can develop from a combination of factors rather than a single cause. Common risk factors include:
Family history and genetics
Aging
Obesity or excess weight
Poor diet, especially high sodium intake
Physical inactivity
Smoking or tobacco use
Excess alcohol consumption
Sleep disorders, including sleep apnea
Certain medications or underlying medical conditions

TREATMENT
for Hypertension
Treatment for hypertension often includes lifestyle modifications such as:
Eating a heart-healthy, balanced diet
Reducing sodium intake
Exercising regularly
Maintaining a healthy weight
Quitting smoking
Limiting alcohol intake
Managing stress
For many patients, medications may also be recommended to help control blood pressure and reduce the risk of complications. Your cardiologist can work with you to create a personalized treatment plan based on your individual health needs.
