HOW TO PREPARE
Do not eat or drink for 4 hours before your test.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and loose-fitting clothing. Avoid one-piece outfits such as dresses.
Bring your inhaler or oxygen if you use them.
Do not apply lotions, creams, or powders to your chest before the test. Deodorant is okay.
Hold beta blockers only if instructed by your provider.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Small adhesive electrodes will be placed on your chest to monitor your heart rhythm. You will walk on a treadmill that gradually increases in speed and incline while your heart rate, blood pressure, and symptoms are monitored. The test typically takes 30–60 minutes, including preparation and recovery time.

AFTER THE TEST
You can return to your normal activities unless otherwise instructed by your provider. A cardiologist will review the results and discuss any findings with you.
